Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial Park

Home

The Hawkshaw Lagoon Missing Children Memorial, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

The Project
The Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial Park is designed to serve as the National Memorial to Missing Children. One of the board's directors Kathy Gaut, is the mother of a missing daughter and has provided much inspiration toward the successful completion of this project.

A quarter-mile inlet on Pensacola Bay, adjacent to Bayfront Parkway and across from Veterans Memorial Park and just east of the Seville Historic District in Pensacola, Florida, is the site of the Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial Park.

Hawkshaw Lagoon Missing Children, Inc., in cooperation with local governments, area businesses, civic organizations, and individuals developed this historic site into a nature park - the focal point of which is the National Memorial to Missing Children.

The park currently includes a pedestrian bridge spanning the lagoon and an observation deck that serves as a platform for the bronze memorial sculpture "The Sanctuary." It provides a natural site for the study of the lagoon's ecosystem... plants, animals, marine and bird life.

In 2006, Project Greenshores, site 2 was developed by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in the summer of 2007 and serves as a breakwater barrier for protection of the Memorial.

In the future, the board of the Hawkshaw Lagoon Missing Children Memorial, Inc. will develop an institute for the study of missing children. This research-based entity is envisioned as a global resource to:
  • Develop models for dissemination to and application by family members, law enforcement, and organizations related to missing children, and...
  • Raise public awareness and thus minimize successful perpetration.

Hawkshaw would not have been possible without the many supporters who helped to make the Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial a reality. Without the support of businesses like Deep South Crane Rentals, Greenhut Constructon, and others we would not have been able to complete this first phase of the project.
